BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 19: A six-year-old girl who was kidnapped by two unidentified miscreants on Monday evening from Odisha’s Deogarh town was rescued from under a bridge in Sundergarh district. The girl’s father went to Sundergarh and brought her daughter back home.

Two unidentified miscreants had abducted the girl, daughter of businessman Alok Agarwal, while she was returning home with her grandmother from tuition classes.

The girl, who appeared completely shaken and petrified, narrated her ordeal after her rescue.

According to the victim, the miscreants lifted her up onto a high-speed bike as she was returning home with her grandmother and rushed away from Deogarh town.

“Two youths took me on a motorcycle and asked me to keep my mouth shut. They took me to a forest and I was crying a lot. Then they took me in a car to someplace. They were communicating in Hindi. I could not recognise them as they were wearing masks. They did not give me water and food,” said the rescued minor girl.

The girl said, “On the way I shouted for help. As some people heard my cries and chased the car, the kidnappers dropped me at a place and fled away.”

The police said the kidnappers dropped the girl near Sarabati High School under Badagaon police limits in Sundergarh district. A woman first noticed her crying under a bridge. Along with the local youths, she rescued the girl. After getting a phone number from the little girl, the youths contacted her father and asked him to come down to the place to take his child.

Alok Agarwal, the girl’s father, said, “I am happy that with the help of people and police, I got back my daughter. It is a rebirth for her.”

According to Agarwal, a massive search operation was launched after his daughter was abducted. Later, they got information about her after several hours.

“I was hopeful to get my daughter back and with God’s blessing, it came true. But prior to this, every minute was very tough. After seeing my daughter on a video call, we immediately rushed to get her. When my daughter saw me, she hugged me and she was very happy.”

“I had not received any calls of threat for money in the past. There are no injury marks that could point towards any assault on her. My daughter is still in a state of panic and we could get more information only after she returns to normalcy,” Agarwal added.

The police, while releasing the CCTV image of the two kidnappers on Tuesday, announced a cash award of Rs 10,000 for people who can reveal their identities.

The police said it suspected ransom could be the motive behind the kidnapping of the girl.
