Paradip, July 14: Trouble seems to be mounting for Odisha’s ruling BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das as the Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police (SP) Akhileshvar Singh has requested the Crime Branch of state police to investigate into the allegation that the lawmaker from Tirtol ran a sex racket to earn easy money.
Somalika Dash, the girlfriend and wife-to-be of Bijay, had lodged a complaint last month with the Jagatsinghpur police alleging that the lawmaker was operating sex racket to raise money for election expenses. The complaint was lodged on June 18, soon after Bijay Shankar did not turn up for marriage with Somalika at the Registrar of Marriage office at Jagatsinghpur.
Sources in the Crime Branch informed that acting on the First Information Report (FIR), Jagatsinghpur SP on July 4 has written to the additional director general (DG) of police, Crime Branch to pass an order to take up the case by the Crime Branch for a detailed investigation into the allegations of the complainant.
“The complainant has alleged that the FIR-mentioned accused is operating sex racket and running a brothel. As a result of which there is much hue and cry over the issue politically as well as on social media. As the FIR-named accused is the sitting MLA of Tirtol Assembly Constituency, it has become a sensitive issue,” the Jagatsinghpur SP wrote.
The SP stated that the complainant also wants that the investigation of the case may be taken up by Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Crime Branch, Odisha for an impartial investigation.
“Under the above circumstances, it is requested that orders may be passed that the investigation of the above noted case may be taken up by CID, CB, Odisha for a detailed investigation to the allegations of the complainant of the case,” the SP added.
Somalika had in her FIR has mentioned that the lawmaker has several cases pending against him in different police stations in connection with running sex rackets.
The lawmaker, however, has dismissed all allegations against him as baseless.
“I have given consent to marry Somalika. As my mother is seriously ill, the solemnization of marriage is getting delayed. Out of frustration, Somalika is making baseless allegations against me,” said Bijay.
