BHUBANESWAR, SEPT. 12: Odisha Cabinet on Thursday gave its in-principle approval to the proposal for 10 per cent reservation to retired Agniveer personnel in its uniform services.

The retired Agniveers will be recruited in uniform services, which among others, include police, forest, excise and fire services, informed state chief secretary Manoj Ahuja.

“The Cabinet chaired by chief minister Mohan Majhi took three major decisions today. As we know, the Agniveers are trained for a year and they serve for four years. After retirement, some of them are retained as regular employees in the defence forces while others retire. The Odisha Cabinet today approved the proposal to give 10 per cent reservation to retired Agniveers,” said Ahuja.

The chief secretary informed that the Cabinet cleared a proposal for allowing Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone to have 95 per cent shareholding in the Gopalpur Ports Limited in Ganjam district.

“Gopalpur Port was developed with Built-Operate-Own and Transfer (BOOT) mode on the public-private partnership for 30 years. At present Shapoorji Pallonji and Odisha Stevedores Limited have 56 per cent and 44 per cent stake holdings in the port. Today, the Cabinet cleared a proposal by the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone for acquisition to 95 per cent stake in the port project. The remaining 5 per cent 5 per cent stake will remain with the Odisha Stevedores Limited,” said the chief secretary.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for appointment of married daughter and step-daughter of state government employee on rehabilitation basis.

“Previously, only son and wife of a government employee were allowed to appointment on rehabilitation basis. Now after the Cabinet decision, married daughter and step-daughter of government employees can avail appointment on rehabilitation basis after the death of their father,” said chief secretary Ahuja.
