Bhubaneswar, June 18:Aman from Bihar, who was injured in the Bahanaga triple train tragedy and undergoing treatment at the Cuttack SCB Medical College & Hospital’s Trauma ICU, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, taking the total death toll to 291.

The deceased was identified as Sohen Mansoor.

“Today morning he died due to cardiac arrest. We had tried our best to save him. Had we been able to save him, we would have operated his hands and legs successfully. But in the initial stage, he had bled a lot internally, leading to kidney dysfunction. While he was reviving, other complications set in,” informed superintendent of SCBMCH, Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra.

While three train mishap victims have so far died at Cuttack hospital, as many as 288 persons were killed on the spot at Bahanaga Bazar in Balasore district on June 2.

“We have two to three critical patients presently undergoing treatment in the ICU. A total of 46 patients are presently undergoing treatment in our hospital. Out of them, 13 patients are in the ICU and the rest are receiving treatment in the wards,” he added.

Meanwhile, the authorities of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, have written a letter to the Central Forensic Laboratory, requesting them to send the DNA reports of 15 to 17 bodies at the earliest as they have more than one claimant. In total, the 81 bodies preserved in the premier health institution have more than one claimant.
