Odisha’s first proposed IFFCO Nano Fertiliser (DAP & UREA) Plant Public Hearing at Paradeep

Paradip,Sept. 14: A public hearing was conducted on 14th September, 2022 in front of Municipality KalyanMandap at Paradeep for expansion of IFFCO, PARADEEP UNIT for production of NANO FERTILIZER (DAP & UREA). The public hearing programme was organised by District Adminstration of Jagatsinghpur&Paradeep Regional Office of State Pollution Control Board, Odisha. Dr. K C Dhir, ADM, Paradeeppresided over this Public Hearing program. Mr. P C Behera, Regional Officer, SPCB Paradeepconducted the Program in presence of Mr NimainCharanaSethy, Addl SP, Paradeep, Ms SubhalaxmiPujary, IIC Paradeep Police Station, Ms Bibechita Sarangi, DyEnv. Engineer, SPCB, Paradeep. From Project Proponent Side of IFFCO, Mr P S Neelambaran, Sr GM (Nano), Mr B K Parida, Sr Manager (HR), Mr DebasisMohanty, Dy Manager (Environment) & Mr Prsanna Kumar Beura, PRO, were also present on the occasion.
Such Public hearing of Nano fertiliser is one of its kind & is conducted for the first time in Odisha. It was attended by local people, different NGOs, Environmental activists and print and electronic press media. Project proponent, IFFCO briefed the gathering on the new project for production of Nano fertilizer with expansion of existing plant. The proposed Nano Plant will have the capacity to produce 33, 000 KL, Nano DAP & Nano Urea in a year. The Plant will be established over an area of 10 acres land available within IFFCO Campus. The total cost of the project will be 225 Crores.Production of Nano fertilizer will help the farmers in many ways. Use of Nano fertilizer will reduce the application of conventional fertilizer by up to 50%. A 45 kg bag of conventional urea will be replaced by one bottle of 500 ml Nano urea. Nano DAP will also have similar advantages. The establishment and production of Nano fertilizer will promote efficient nutrient management, prevention in deterioration of ecosystem and improvement in soil health. Establishment of this project will usher employment generation in the locality. Nano fertilizer will reduce both subsidy burden on Government of India as well as the fertilizer import load of the country. It will generate a huge financial national saving.
As described by IFFCO, the production process of Nano fertilizer will have negligible impact on air and water environment. IFFCO also informed about various pollution control measures to be undertaken during construction and operation phases of this new Plant. More than 300 persons attended this public hearing program. People present in the meeting enquired about various aspects associated with environmental pollution, employment benefits & peripheral development activities which was explained and suitably replied by IFFCO.
