OUJ seeks hike in health insurance coverage, pension and law for protection of scribes

Gunupur (Rayagada), June 19: Odisha Union of Journalists (OUJ) led by its president Prasanna Kumar Mohanty on Sunday submitted a memorandum to chief minister Naveen Patnaik through the Sub-Collector, Gunupur, seeking a hike in the insurance coverage for scribes from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, a monthly pension of Rs 20,000 to scribes after their retirement and enactment of Journalists’ Protection Act.
Later, the OUJ functionaries organised a blood donation camp where more than 50 units of blood were collected. Mr Prasanna Mohanty inaugurated the camp by donating blood himself.
The blood donation camp was followed plantation programme in which OUJ functionaries planted trees alongside the main road of the town.
On Saturday evening, OUJ’s Golden Jubile celebration along with state executive body meeting was held at Town Hall here. Former chief minister Giridhar Gamang and Rajya Sabha member N Bhaskar Rao graced the occasion as esteemed guests. Among others, OUJ general secretary Ashok Nanda, Gunpur unit president Radhakrushna Patniaik, general secretary Ranjit Padhi and OUJ vice president Rajesh Patnaik and Prithiraj Sahoo joined the guests on the dais.
Both the esteemed guests pledged their unstinted support to the OUJ.
N Bhaskar Rao promised to discuss the problems and demands of OUJ with the chief minister.
OUJ delegates from all across the state participated in the two-day event.
The Gunupur event was a huge success.
