NEW DELHI,MAY 24 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended an invitation to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese and Australian fans to watch the Cricket World Cup and the Diwali celebrations in India later this year. The Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in October-November. This year, Diwali will be celebrated on November 12.

PM Modi, who is on a three-day visit to Australia, made the comments at a joint press briefing with PM Albanese after a bilateral talk between them in Sydney. Invoking cricket, PM Modi said India-Australia ties have entered “T20 mode”.

“I invite PM Anthony Albanese and all Australian cricket fans to India for the Cricket World Cup this year. At that time, you will also get to see the grand Diwali celebration in India,” he said.

PM Modi said he was overwhelmed by his welcome in Australia as PM Albanese thanked him for visiting Australia. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Australia since November 2014, months after his first government came to power.

PM Albanese said both sides reiterated their shared ambition for an early conclusion of the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement later this year.

On his part, PM Modi said the agreement would strengthen the economic partnership between the two countries and open up new avenues in bilateral trade.

The Australian Prime Minister announced the establishment of a new Australian Consulate General in Bengaluru. This came a day after PM Modi said at a grand Indian community event in the Qudos Bank Arena that a new Indian consulate would be opened soon in Brisbane.

“I am also pleased to announce the establishment of a new Australian Consulate General in Bengaluru which will help connect Australian businesses to India’s booming digital and innovation ecosystem,” PM Albanese said.
