Rajasthan Congress passes resolution to appoint Rahul Gandhi as party president
Rajasthan , Sept 18 : Rajasthan Congress has passed a resolution stating that Rahul Gandhi should be made the party’s President.A meeting of Pradesh Congress Committees is being held in each state wherein a resolution is being passed stating that “we authorise the incoming Congress president to appoint PCC and AICC members.” However, apart from this, another resolution, which was proposed by Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, was also passed stating that Rahul Gandhi be made Congress Chief.
Talking to the media, Rajasthan Minister PS Khachariyawas said, “A resolution was passed that everyone will abide by whatever the national president decides on, including the appointment of state presidents. Another resolution moved by CM Ashok Gehlot to appoint Rahul Gandhi as party president has also been passed.”
Meanwhile, Puducherry Pradesh Congress also, through a resolution, demanded that Rahul Gandhi be made the next Congress President. According to sources, Himachal Pradesh state unit will also be passing a similar resolution during its September 19 meeting.
Rahul Gandhi has so far held the card close to his chest as far as the Congress President poll is concerned. The only hint Gandhi scion dropped was in Kanyakumari, while addressing the media, he had said that if he does not file the nomination, then he should be asked why he was against taking the leadership and he would answer.
The nomination for Congress’ President election starts from September 24 and by October 2 – if there is a single candidate then – Congress will get its next President.
Congress’ Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry recently while interacting with the media in Delhi had said that each state will pass a one-line resolution that they authorise the Congress President to appoint PCC and AICC members.
Following this in each state PCC delegates are holding meeting and passing the resolution that will authorise incoming President to appoint PCC chiefs and AICC delegates. However, state units on their own are also passing resolutions that Rahul Gandhi handed over the baton to lead Congress as its next chief.
The total number of PCC delegates is more than 9,000 whereas there will be more than 1,500 AICC delegates.
In the past few months, many states and frontal organisations has passed the resolution to make Rahul Gandhi as party President.
The Wayanad MP at present is holding a 3,570 km padyatra – Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
