Rayagada: Rayagada district registered an impressive performance at the 69th State-Level School Athletics, Baseball and Softball Championships, organised by the School & Mass Education Department, Government of Odisha. The three-day event for under-14 and under-17 boys and girls was held from November 13 to 15, 2025, at Christian High School, Balasore.

A strong 48-member contingent from Rayagada participated in the meet, showcasing exceptional discipline, determination and sporting spirit.

On Monday morning, the team returned home carrying three runner-up trophies, four individual medals and a special trophy awarded to the District Education Officer (DEO) for the district’s overall performance.

At Rayagada Railway Station, the athletes received a warm welcome with floral greetings. District Education Officer Ramachandra Nahak and District Sports Officer (DSO) Sheikh Alleenoor led the reception, joined by District School Sports Inspector Harihar Patra, UPTF district representatives and several physical education teachers who gathered to honour the young achievers.

Medal winners from Rayagada

 Lalita Taika (Polama High School) – Bronze, 3000m race

 Mausumi Majhi (Polama High School) – Silver, 200m race

 Rekha Jagerenga (Dukum High School) – Bronze, Shot Put

 Dipika Miniaka (Narayanpur High School) – Bronze, 400m hurdles (Rayagada’s first-ever medal in this event)

In addition to individual medals, Rayagada secured runner-up trophies in girls’ baseball as well as in both boys’ and girls’ softball, further strengthening the district’s growing reputation in team sports.

DSO’s role acknowledged

District Sports Officer Sheikh Alleenoor was widely praised for his pivotal role in the district’s success. Through sustained mentoring, close coordination with schools and consistent support to coaches, he ensured athletes received the guidance and motivation they needed. His supervision throughout the season proved crucial in helping the players perform confidently at the state-level meet.

Coaches appreciated

DEO Ramachandra Nahak congratulated chief coach Rajesh Barik, manager Ganesh Mahapatra and coaches Gautam Mudili, Rebati Pidisika and Susmita Satapathy for their dedicated efforts in grooming the students. He said Rayagada is home to many gifted children who excel in both academics and sports, and that proper support and opportunities can help them achieve greater heights.

Collector’s message

Rayagada District Collector Ashutosh Kulkarni also extended his congratulations to all athletes, coaches and officials. He said the achievements have brought immense pride to the district and encouraged students to continue their hard work, discipline and pursuit of excellence in future competitions.
