Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan convicted in 2019 hate speech case

New Delhi,OCT 27: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been convicted in a hate speech case by a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur. The court is expected to give the quantum of punishment at 3 pm today.
In 2019, a case of hate speech was filed against Azam Khan over his comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
There is a provision for imprisonment of up to three years as per the registered sections. If Azam Khan is sentenced to two years in jail or more, he stands to lose his membership of the state assembly. The Samajwadi leader faces nearly 90 cases, including that of corruption and theft.
Earlier this year, he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court of India in an alleged cheating case.
