Bhubaneswar, Nov. 9: A seven-foot-long saltwater crocodile that had wandered onto Bichitrapur beach in Balasore district’s Bhograi block was successfully captured by Odisha forest department officials on Friday, bringing relief to local residents who had been alarmed by the predator’s presence.

The crocodile was finally subdued after an intense, night-long operation.

According to reports, local fishermen initially spotted the large reptile on the beach, sparking concern and fear throughout the area. Residents promptly alerted the forest department, which mobilised a specialised team to handle the situation.

A group of 30 forest personnel was dispatched to the beach to carry out the capture operation. After working through the night, they were able to safely ensnare the crocodile in a net.

Following its capture, the forest department officials transported the crocodile to Bhitarkanika National Park, where it will be monitored and managed as part of the park’s conservation efforts.
