Phulbani: Traffic cop clears sand drifts on road, receives accolades from all quarters

BHUBANESWAR, JAN. 21: Residents of Odisha’s Phulbani town on Wednesday morning got a pleasant surprise when they found a traffic policeman sweeping the road to clear sand drifts that posed imminent threat to motorists, especially the two-wheeler riders.
The extraordinary care and concern of the cop evoked immediate reaction from the local citizens and people from across the state. They showered him praises for going beyond the call of duty to ensure safety to motorists.
In a video that has gone viral on several social media platforms, the traffic cop, identified as Subrat Kumar Nayak, along with two other lady cops is seen sweeping the road near Gandhi Chhak at Phulbani, the headquarters town of Kandhamal district.
He can also be seen brooming away the sand accumulated on the road so that motorists did not skid over it.
“Piles of sand lay scattered on the road after some repair work got over. The small sand piles caused a couple of bikers losing control over their vehicles and skid. On Wednesday morning, a man riding a motorcycle with a child on the pillion also slipped and fell down. However, fortunately they escaped with no major injuries,” said Subrat.
“I had earlier informed the local Notified Area Council (NAC) officials and the contractor to clear off the sand. When they failed to act, I decided to clean the road with a broom so that people don’t skid on the road anymore,” added the kind-hearted traffic cop.
Earlier in October last year, a video of traffic policeman Lalit Mohan Rout of Town Traffic Police Station in Cuttack, sweeping rubbles on a road near Sikharpur square had gone viral. The cop had earned massive praise for his kind gesture.
