Utkal Hospital’s Historic Milestone: Odisha’s First Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker, VIV and TMVR Successfully Performed

Bhubaneswar, Dec.24: Utkal Hospital, through its Utkal Institute of Cardiac Sciences, has achieved a historic milestone in the field of cardiac care. The hospital has successfully performed Odisha’s first Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker implantation, VIV TAVI (Valve-in-Valve Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR). These landmark achievements have established Utkal Hospital as a leading center for advanced and state-of-the-art cardiac care in the state.
The implantation of Odisha’s first Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker was successfully carried out by the expert cardiology team at Utkal Hospital. This highly advanced procedure does not require surgical incisions or pacing leads, significantly reducing complications and ensuring faster recovery for patients.
In another historic accomplishment, the team at Utkal Hospital also successfully performed Odisha’s first TAVR and TMVR procedures, offering life-saving treatment options to high-risk patients who were not suitable candidates for conventional open-heart surgery. These highly complex structural heart interventions reflect the hospital’s advanced infrastructure, multidisciplinary expertise, and strong clinical outcomes.

To mark these achievements, a press conference was organized, during which the doctors highlighted the clinical excellence of Utkal Hospital’s Cardiology and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) departments. These departments consistently deliver outstanding outcomes in complex angioplasties, structural heart procedures, minimally invasive surgeries, and hybrid cardiac treatments.
At the conclusion of the press conference, Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Guru, Medical Superintendent, Utkal Hospital, delivered the vote of thanks.
