Fight against corruption: Vigilance traps two officers, seizes huge money

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 9: Upping its ante against corruption, the Vigilance wing of Odisha police on Saturday recovered over Rs 12 lakh unaccounted cash in separate raids from two regional officers of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and a superintendent engineer of the Irrigation Department, respectively.

As per preliminary reports, Rs 10 lakh was recovered from the car of the Bidhan Chandra Sahu, Superintendent Engineer of Baitarini Irrigation Division in Keonjhar district by the anti-graft agency. Sahu was intercepted while he was on his way to his residence in Cuttack.

A team of senior Vigilance officials from Jajpur and Cuttack division intercepted Sahu’s car near NC College in jajpur in the afternoon today. Sahu was subsequently taken to Cuttack for further investigation as he could not give a satisfactory answer regarding the source of the money. He has been booked.

 “The amount has been recovered from Sahu’s possession. House searches are being carried out at his office and residence in Cuttack. In this connection, a case under section 7(a) 13(2), 13(1)(b) PC(Amend)Act,2018 has been registered,” tweeted Vigilance.

In another development, Vigilance officers intercepted PK Mohapatra, the regional officer of OSPCB (Rourkela) and recovered Rs 1.75 lakh from his possession. Mohapatra was reportedly intercepted in Bhubaneswar while returning from Rourkela.

Similarly, Rs 89,000 was also recovered from OPSCB regional officer (Balasore) Narottam Behera. The cash was seized from Behera’s possession while he was on his way to Bhubaneswar.
