Cuttack, Jan. 18: Odisha’s popular playback singer Humane Sagar has landed in trouble after his wife Shriya Mishra brought serious allegations of domestic violence against him.
Shriya lodged the complaint against Sagar at Mahila police station in Cuttack on Tuesday. However, no case was registered and they served separate notices to the couple to report at the police station for counselling.
Confirming the matter on Wednesday, Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra said that the singer’s wife lodged a complaint regarding domestic violence and family dispute and all efforts were being made as per the provisions of law to counsel them.
“On Tuesday, a complaint was lodged against a person over marital discord or domestic violence. We have referred the case to the Mahila Police station. The Mahila police are conducting a preliminary inquiry into it. As per our procedure, we will in the first step summon the couple and conduct their counseling for mutual settlement,” the DCP said.
“The essence of the allegation is domestic violence and marital discord,” he added.
Humane Sagar married Shriya Mishra in 2017, his fellow participant in the show Voice of Odisha Season 2. They have a daughter.
Earlier, the singer was embroiled in controversy over his song ‘Jhia Nuhe Tu Coronavirus,’ which compared a college-going girl with the deadly coronavirus. His song ‘Chhendipada Rani’ has also triggered a controversy.
He had joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2019.
