Woman raped after being offered lift in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, accused arrested

BHUBANESWAR, MARCH 9: A youth was on Thursday arrested by the Odisha police for allegedly raping a woman after offering her a lift in Maitri Vihar area in the state capital city Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night.
The accused, identified as Satyanaryan Sahoo (31) of Gadakan village on the outskirts of the city, was forwarded to court following his arrest.
As per reports, the woman, who works in a hotel in Maitri Vihar, was waiting for her friend along the road on Tuesday evening.
At that time, the accused approached her and initiated a conversation. Then he offered her a lift by promising that he is going to the same place where the lady wanted to and he would drop her at her destination.
The woman trusted the stranger and took the lift. However, the youth allegedly took her to a secluded place and raped her.
Local people heard the screams of the helpless woman and came to her rescue immediately. They also captured the accused and handed him over to the local police.
Following a preliminary investigation, Maitri Vihar police arrested the accused and forwarded him to court.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 341, 376 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
