Malkangiri ,09 Aug,2023: The spirit of unity and resilience among tribal communities was on full display today as the Malkangiri District Adivasi Maha Sangha celebrated World Adivasi Day with great enthusiasm. Gathering at the heart of Malkangiri, representatives from 32 distinct tribes, including Bonda, Koya, Didai, Parja, Halba, and Gadba, joined hands to commemorate the occasion.

In a fervent show of respect, the tribal members commenced the event by offering flowers at the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, near the Malkangiri Bus Stand. The proceedings then escalated into a grand procession that navigated through the bustling streets of Malkangiri, culminating at the doorstep of the District Collector’s office.

The objective of this gathering was not only to celebrate their rich cultural heritage but also to advocate for their rights and concerns. Armed with a demand letter encompassing key issues, including the condemnation of violence against Adivasi women in Manipur, opposition to the Uniform Civil Code and the New Forest Act, the tribal representatives sought to present their demands to the District Collector.

However, as the District Collector was unavailable to receive the memorandum, the assembly decided to voice their grievances in a more impactful manner. Consequently, they temporarily blocked National Highway No. 326, drawing attention to their cause. Subsequently, they marched towards the DNK parade ground, where the main event unfolded.

At the DNK parade ground, the tribal communities showcased their vibrant and rich cultural heritage through traditional dances that captivated the audience. Eminent guests, including District Adivasi Samaj Maha Sangha President Ghanshyam Madkami, former MLA Manas Madkami, SDC Chairman Adma Raba, Sanu Anugu, and Genu Muduli, graced the event. Their presence underscored the significance of unity in advocating for the rights of Adivasi communities.

In an inspiring show of solidarity, over 1000 tribal individuals from various communities congregated at the event, alongside advisor Prabhakar Hantal. The speeches delivered by the guests resonated with the attendees, providing guidance on effective strategies to fight for the rights and welfare of the tribal populace.

The Malkangiri District Adivasi Maha Sangha’s celebration of this day serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that lies within unity and the determination to advocate for a better future for all Adivasi people.
