World Diabetes Day Observed at Utkal Hospital

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 14: Utkal Hospital, Niladri Vihar, on Friday marked World Diabetes Day 2025 with an awareness programme that saw active participation from citizens and healthcare professionals.
The event was attended by Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Cooperation, Government of Odisha, as the Chief Guest. Olympian Anuradha Biswal joined as the honorary guest, while B.K. Subodh Singh, CEO of Utkal Hospital, presided over the programme and highlighted the growing need for preventive healthcare and lifestyle modification to curb diabetes.
Senior doctors of Utkal Hospital — Dr. Sudhir patnaik,MBBS, MD(Medicine) ,Sr. Consultant Internal Medicine & Diabetes ,Dr.Sitikantha Nanda, MBBS, DNB(Medicine), PGDED(Diabetes & Endocrinology), Sr. Consultant Internal Medicine & Diabetes, Dr. Pranabandhu Sahoo, MBBS, MD(Medicine), Sr. Consultant Internal Medicine & Diabetes and Dr. Madhusmita Sahu, MBBS, MBBS, MD (Medicine), DM (Endocrinology),Consultant Endocrinology & Diabetes — delivered key messages on diabetes awareness, early diagnosis, and management. They underscored the rising burden of lifestyle diseases and the importance of regular health check-ups.
A special yoga session was also organised in front of the hospital premises, led by Sri Suresh Kumar Mohapatra, Odisha Pranta Adhyaksha of Bharatiya Yoga Sansthana. The session highlighted the role of physical activity, breathing exercises and mindfulness in controlling blood sugar and promoting overall well-being.
More than 400 participants from various walks of life took part in the session, demonstrating strong community support for building a healthier and diabetes-aware society.
Appreciating the initiative, Sri Patil commended Utkal Hospital for consistently promoting health awareness and encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The programme concluded with a pledge to continue spreading awareness on diabetes, promote early detection, and encourage lifestyle changes, regular exercise and routine medical consultations to combat the growing threat of the disease.
