World Tribal Day Celebrated with Grandeur in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Aug 9 ,2024: The World Tribal Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Sanskruti Bhawan in Malkangiri District Headquarters. The event was chaired by Mr. Bandhu Muduli, President of the Tribal Society Mahasangha. The gathering featured notable figures including Sandeep Helme, a researcher on tribal constitutional rights, who served as the chief speaker. Other distinguished guests included Zilla Parishad Chairman Shamari Tangul, Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla, Malkangiri MLA Narsingh Madkami, Sub-Collector Duryodhan Bhoi, Ex-MLA Manas Madkami, and several prominent local leaders.
In line with the United Nations’ declaration of August 9 as World Indigenous People’s Day, the event aimed to raise awareness about tribal culture and rights. The day began with a large procession, where hundreds donned traditional attire and paid floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at the Malkangiri bus stand. The procession continued through the town, reaching at the Collectorate, where a demand letter was presented to ADM Vedabar Pradhan.
Cultural performances, including Koya Samaj Dance, Santali Samaj Dance, and others, showcased the rich heritage of various tribal communities. Leaders from 14 tribal societies, along with block chiefs, Sarpanchs, and members of the tribal employees’ union, highlighted the importance of preserving tribal language, culture, and traditions. The event emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard tribal rights and heritage.
