With 10,754 rooftop solar installations and an installed capacity of nearly 35 MWp, Khordha continues to lead Odisha in rooftop solar adoption, setting a benchmark for renewable energy deployment across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The achievement reflects Odisha&#8217;s growing commitment to clean energy and sustainable development. The state currently offers one of the most attractive rooftop solar subsidy structures in the country under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for both up to 1 kW (ULA) and above 1 kW (non-ULA) consumer categories. Eligible consumers can avail combined Central and State Government subsidies of up to \u20b91,38,000* for rooftop solar installations, significantly reducing upfront costs and making clean energy adoption increasingly affordable and accessible for households across both urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major contributor to this success has been the &#8220;Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya&#8221; campaign launched by Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs. The campaign has played a pivotal role in creating awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of rooftop solar among households, institutions and communities. Through extensive outreach activities, the campaign has encouraged consumers to adopt solar energy as a means to reduce electricity expenses while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Khordha emerged as a frontrunner in the campaign owing to its strong urban and rural participation, proactive local administration and effective consumer engagement initiatives. As part of the outreach efforts, Surya Ghar Gram Sabhas are being organized at the Gram Panchayat level to educate citizens about rooftop solar technology, subsidy benefits, installation procedures and long-term savings opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DISCOMs are also actively engaging with sarpanches, block-level officers, community leaders and citizens to facilitate consumer onboarding and maximize participation in the scheme. These collaborative efforts have enabled Khordha to become the first district in Odisha to achieve the landmark of 10,000 rooftop solar installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs have implemented several consumer-friendly measures to facilitate rooftop solar adoption. These include ensuring the availability of net meters, timely inspections and commissioning, streamlined vendor registration and management and inter-departmental convergence for the solarization of government buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gajanan S. Kale, CEO, TPCODL, said, &#8220;Khordha becoming the first district in Odisha to surpass 10,000 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a proud milestone for the state\u2019s clean energy journey. This achievement reflects the growing trust of consumers in rooftop solar solutions and the success of our collective efforts through initiatives such as \u2018Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya\u2019 and Surya Ghar Gram Sabhas. We are encouraged by the enthusiastic participation of households, community leaders and local administrations in embracing sustainable energy. TPCODL remains committed to providing seamless consumer support, accelerating rooftop solar adoption and contributing to Odisha\u2019s vision of a greener, self-reliant and energy-secure future.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odisha&#8217;s rooftop solar progress has also received national recognition under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy&#8217;s (MNRE) &#8220;Month of Solar&#8221; Campaign conducted in May 2026. During the campaign, Odisha secured the first position among medium-category states across all three key performance indicators by receiving 30,214 applications, commissioning 12,964 rooftop solar systems and conducting 14,181 inspections during the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The achievement of Khordha and the state&#8217;s overall rooftop solar success underscore Odisha&#8217;s leadership in
