Morigaon\/Assam, Sep 5 : The Assam Government should amend the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Amendment Bill, 2026, and include the Nath-Yogi community among the indigenous communities of Assam to safeguard their land rights. This demand was raised today by Dhiren Chandra Nath, president of the Assam Provincial Yogi Sammilani, while addressing a press conference at the conference hall of the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those present at the press conference were Sammilani adviser Kirti Nath, vice-president Uday Nath, Sushil Nath, Organising Secretary of state committee ,Morigaon district president Ramen Nath, secretary Nitumoni Nath, Mahila Samiti president Jyoti Devi, Nath-Yogi Yuva Parishad secretary Biplob Nath, District Youth secy Krishna kr Nath. Pulak Nath , district secretary of the Mahila Sammilani Padma Devi, community leader Sudarshan Nath, Tithendra Bharati and other leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Nath said that they welcome the 2026 Bill, which seeks to prohibit non-indigenous people from purchasing land within a five-kilometre radius of historically protected areas. But, he expressed resentment over the exclusion of the Nath-Yogi community, along with Kalitas, Keots, Suts,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kumars, Brahmins and Mahantas, from the protection provided under the proposed legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is particularly unfortunate that the Nath-Yogi community, which has a history spanning a thousand years, has been deprived of this right,\u201d Nath said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stated that the communities deprived of the proposed land protection would soon come together and take the next course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nath also appealed to the government to officially recognise the community by the name \u201cNath-Yogi\u201d, instead of referring to it by different names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president informed that the 107th annual session of the Assam Provincial Yogi Sammilani will be held on December 25, 26 and 27 at Charactersaraibahi in Morigaon district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Dipul Nath, joint secretary of the Reception Committee, appealed to all concerned to extend their cooperation for the successful conduct of the annual session.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
