Cuttack\/Odisha,Sep 7 : Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS has urged young people to stay away from drugs and other forms of substance abuse, stressing that addiction can seriously affect an individual\u2019s health, education, career and family life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a gathering on the growing concern over drug abuse among the younger generation, Dr Nayak said awareness and timely intervention were essential to prevent youth from falling into the trap of substance dependence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He appealed to youngsters to make informed choices and resist peer pressure that could push them towards experimenting with drugs. He also called upon parents, teachers and community leaders to play a proactive role in identifying warning signs and creating a supportive environment for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe future of our society depends on the choices our youth make today. Drugs can destroy dreams, relationships and careers,\u201d Dr Nayak said, urging youngsters to focus their energy on education, sports, creative activities and other constructive pursuits. He stressed that drug addiction should not be viewed only as a social or disciplinary issue, but also as a problem requiring compassion, counselling and professional support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Young people struggling with substance use, he said, should be encouraged to seek help rather than face stigma or isolation. Dr Nayak further emphasised the importance of collective action to address the problem. Schools and colleges, he said, could strengthen awareness programmes and encourage students to discuss mental health, peer pressure and substance abuse openly. He urged young people to become ambassadors of a drug-free lifestyle and encourage their friends to make healthy choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appeal comes amid growing concern over substance abuse among youth and its wider impact on families and communities.
