SRINAGAR,AUG 29 : Three militants are believed to have been killed in two separate encounters along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the army said on Thursday. Another encounter is going in Rajouri in the Jammu region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to an army official, a joint operation was launched by the army and police on Wednesday night, after intelligence inputs suggested infiltration bids by militants in Shamshu, Machil area, close to LoC, in the Kupwara district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring the operation, suspicious movement was observed in bad weather. The militants were engaged with effective firing by the troops,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the official, two militants are likely to have been killed in the encounter. He said the operation is still going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another operation was launched in the Tangdhar area of Kupwara, close to LoC, during the preceding night after intelligence inputs about likely infiltration attempts by militants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring the operation, a firefight took place between the militants and security forces. In the gunfight, one militant is likely to have been killed,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional troops have been rushed to both encounter sites to tighten the siege and prevent the infiltrating militants from sneaking into the hinterland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another encounter broke out in the border district of Rajouri in Jammu region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ADGP Jammu Anand Jain said on Wednesday evening said that a search operation was launched by security forces in Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal areas of Rajouri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt around 11: 45 pm, contact was established with the militants hiding near the Kheri Mohra area. The militants fired on the search party and the fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter,\u201d he said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is suspected that two to three militants are trapped in the encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
