Bhubaneswar, Feb. 1: Odisha, endowed with abundant critical minerals and natural resources, has the potential to become one of the most prosperous regions in Southeast Asia, according to experts at the Vibrant Odisha Conclave 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the session themed \u201cVision Odisha 2036: Building Strategies for a Better Tomorrow,\u201d Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Sunday shared the state government’s multi-faceted approach to boosting the state\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur government is implementing a comprehensive strategy for socio-economic development. We are focused on maximising the value-added processing of key minerals like iron ore. Additionally, we are promoting organic farming, farm mechanisation, food storage solutions, and the development of industrial infrastructure. We are also working on strengthening the information technology ecosystem,\u201d said Singh Deo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Deputy Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan highlighted Odisha’s growing appeal as an investment destination. He credited the state’s forward-thinking government and the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Odisha’s emerging position as one of the country’s most favored regions for business and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former finance minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai praised the state’s fiscal progress, noting that Odisha had moved into surplus budget territory in 2005-06 due to prudent fiscal management. However, he pointed out that previous economic growth had not been inclusive. He stressed that the new government must ensure that economic benefits reach all sections of society and every region of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renowned economist and author R.P. Gupta, who delivered the keynote address, outlined an ambitious growth target for Odisha. He emphasised that the state must aim for an annual growth rate of 11 percent to achieve full development by 2036, marking its centenary as a state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prashant Hota, President of Jindal Steel and Power Limited, echoed the need for diversification. He urged the Odisha government to shift its focus from mineral-based industries to other economic sectors in order to secure sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanjya Jena, Editor of Argus News, brought attention to critical social issues that must be addressed for the state to be recognized as truly developed. He highlighted the need to tackle malnutrition, stunted growth in children, and high rates of infant and maternal mortality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
