The summit, organised by Vikashita Odisha Trust, brought together scientists, industry experts, policymakers, and entrepreneurs from across India to deliberate on the future of biotechnology and Odisha\u2019s pivotal role in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the keynote address, Odisha\u2019s food supplies, consumer welfare, and science and technology minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced a major allocation of Rs 1,113.5 crore for the state\u2019s new \u2018Development of Biotechnology\u2019 programme. He also highlighted the Odisha Biotechnology Policy-2024, which includes 17 targeted sub-schemes focusing on infrastructure, advanced research, education, and startup incubation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBiotechnology is not just about scientific progress \u2014 it\u2019s about shaping a sustainable, inclusive future,\u201d Patra remarked, underlining the government\u2019s focus on the 5Is: Innovation, Incubation, Investment, Income, and Impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themed <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><em>\u2018Transforming Odisha into a Knowledge-Driven Bio-Economy\u2019<\/em>,<\/mark> the summit drew participation from thought leaders and delegates from Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. Speakers shared ideas for positioning Odisha as a biotech hub while blending its rich cultural heritage with cutting-edge innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Notable speakers included Debashis Dash, Director, Institute of Life Sciences; Prabodh Mohanty, President, Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Chella Pandian Pichai, Global Head, Biocon Biologics; Dr. Indraneel Ghosh, Country Director, Vector BioMed Inc; Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT; Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Vice Chancellor, FM University; and biotech strategist Abhik Biswas.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussions focused on Odisha\u2019s potential as a bridge between tradition and technology, with emphasis on rural empowerment, youth engagement, and biotech entrepreneurship.
