NEW DELHI, JUN 22 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian about the US airstrikes on three key nuclear sites, expressing deep concerns over the developments in the Middle East and called for immediate de-escalation in hostilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PM Modi, in call with the Iranian President, also reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, adding that dialogue and diplomacy are way forward. The PM called for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability in the region rocked by missile attacks and strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” PM Modi wrote on X after the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The call came from Iranian President Pezeshkian in the wake of the US attack on the Iranian Nuclear facilities, news agency ANI said citing sources. The Iranian President briefed PM Modi in detail on the evolving situation during the 45-minute call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President described India as a friend and partner in promoting regional peace, security and stability and thanked Prime Minister Modi for India’s position and call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy. India\u2019s voice and role were important in the restoration of regional peace and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian President’s call to PM Modi comes hours after the US bombed its three key nuclear facilities \u2014 Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In an address to the nation, Trump called the strikes a “spectacular military success” and warned of more strikes if Iran retaliated. He said the mission had achieved its primary goal: the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reacting to the US strikes, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi called it a serious violation of international law, the UN Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a strongly worded statement posted on X, Araghchi accused the US, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, of \u201ccriminal behavior\u201d by targeting what he described as peaceful nuclear installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,\u201d Iranian Foreign Minister said in a post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
US deployed six bunker buster bombs on the Fordow facility. Hannity also reported that 30 Tomahawk missiles, launched from US submarines positioned 400 miles away, targeted the Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
