PATANA, JUL 19 : In a major breakthrough in the high-profile murder of gangster Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra inside a Patna hospital, five persons were arrested from New Town near Kolkata on Saturday morning, reported news agency PTI. The arrests followed joint raids by the Patna Police and the West Bengal STF, which tracked the accused to a housing complex in the satellite township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll the accused were hiding in a flat in the housing complex in New Town area. Of the five, four were directly involved in the killing. They fled Patna after the incident and came to Kolkata,\u201d a police officer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTheir mobile phone tower location helped us track them. The Bihar Police will produce them before a local court, seeking transit remand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A purported CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed five armed men entering the ICU of the hospital and opening fire at Mishra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mishra, a native of Buxar district, was shot dead inside Paras HMRI Hospital in Patna on Thursday morning by armed assailants in what police believe was a targeted gang hit. The 36-year-old, who had several criminal cases against him and had more recently entered the real estate business, was serving a jail sentence in Beur Central Jail in a murder case but had been released on parole for medical treatment. He was killed while undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to police, initial investigations point to gang rivalry and betrayal within his own group as possible motives. Mishra is believed to have been targeted for allegedly leaking information about fellow gang members involved in a high-value jewellery heist near Saguna More in Patna and in Bhojpur district. This, investigators say, may have led to their arrests, prompting the revenge attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the murder of Mishra\u2014an undertrial prisoner\u2014inside a high-end private hospital has raised serious questions about Bihar\u2019s law and order. The state has seen a spate of daylight killings, including those of a prominent businessman, an advocate, and a sand dealer in recent weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
