{"id":139941,"date":"2025-07-26T21:38:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T16:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/indusvalleytimes.com\/news\/?p=139941"},"modified":"2025-07-26T21:44:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T16:14:35","slug":"largest-kidney-tumour-in-odisha-removed-by-sum-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indusvalleytimes.com\/news\/largest-kidney-tumour-in-odisha-removed-by-sum-doctors\/","title":{"rendered":"Largest kidney tumour in Odisha removed by SUM Doctors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"caps\"><strong>By Payal Banarjee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bhubaneswar, July 26: <\/strong>Surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here have successfully excised a cancerous tumour weighing five kg from the body of a 30-year-old patient recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tumour, which had developed on the patient\u2019s right kidney, is said to be the largest of its kind to have been surgically removed in Odisha till date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The patient, who belonged to Ganjam district, had been complaining of dull aching flank pain and huge swelling on the right side of the abdomen for the last six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On evaluation by the doctors, it was found that the right kidney mass with solid and cystic components measured 30 cm x 20 cm and weighed nearly five kg extending from lower chest to the pelvis, Dr. Biswanu Sundar Biswal, surgeon in the department of Urology, who led the surgical team, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is found to be a rare incidence and largest cancerous mass reported to have been excised in Odisha and is the fourth largest neoplastic mass reported in India,\u201d Dr. Biswal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tumour had plenty of feeding vessels which needed to be carefully separated during the surgery to prevent excessive blood loss, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. (Dr.) Saswat Patnaik, Head of Department of Anesthesiology and Dr. Swastika of the same department, were part of the surgical team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. (Dr.) Suren Das, Head of Department of Urology, said that the hospital was equipped to conduct all kinds of urological surgery. \u201cOur team of urologists are highly skilled to deal with any kind of disease in the kidneys and urinary tract requiring surgery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulating the team, Prof. (Dr.) Pusparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, praised the doctors for their skilful handling of the case. \u201cSuch difficult surgeries are being conducted in IMS and SUM Hospital because of the experience and skill of the doctors and excellent infrastructure available here for treatment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Payal Banarjee Bhubaneswar, July 26: Surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here have successfully excised a cancerous tumour weighing five kg from the body of<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":139942,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,46],"tags":[417],"class_list":["post-139941","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-top-stories","tag-sum-hospital"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
