Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 :<\/strong> In response to the India Meteorological Department\u2019s (IMD) forecast predicting continued heavy rainfall and yellow warnings across multiple districts\u2014including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh\u2014the four Tata Power-led Odisha discoms: TPCODL, TPNODL, TPWODL, and TPSODL have ramped up monsoon readiness. The discoms are prioritizing uninterrupted and safe electricity for nearly 97 lakh consumers, activating emergency protocols and reinforcing systems statewide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In severely affected areas under TPNODL\u2014including Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur\u2014ground teams are working 24×7 to restore supply in flood-impacted localities, ensuring rapid fault repairs and public safety. Similarly, TPWODL teams are operating in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Rourkela to minimize outages and support affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning from past extreme weather events like Cyclone Dana and seasonal kalbaishakis, the discoms have upgraded infrastructure and response strategies. A 15,000-strong workforce\u2014comprising engineers, linemen, and support staff\u2014is deployed across urban and rural locations for real-time response, enabled by the Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar, which provides advanced remote grid monitoring and coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consumer Advisory: Stay Electrically Safe During the Monsoon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To keep citizens safe during heavy rains, the discoms advise following key safety measures:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do\u2019s:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Unplug non-essential appliances during lightning or storms to avoid voltage surge damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Regularly check your household\u2019s electrical safety devices like ELCB\/RCCB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Teach children to avoid wet electrical outlets, cords, and poles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019ts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Avoid walking through waterlogged areas that may hide live wires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Never touch fallen wires or poles\u2014report such instances to 1912 or 1800-345-7122.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Stay away from tall trees or metal objects during thunderstorms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
