NEW DELHI, AUG 14 : President Droupadi Murmu, in her Independence Day eve address, said Operation Sindoor \u2014 India\u2019s swift response to the Pahalgam terror attack \u2014 will be remembered as a historic precedent in the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her address to the nation on Thursday, President Murmu termed the terror attack on innocent citizens in Pahalgam in April as \u201ccowardly and utterly inhuman.\u201d She said India\u2019s response through Operation Sindoor was carried out \u201cin a decisive manner and with steely resolve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOperation Sindoor showed that our armed forces are prepared to meet any eventuality when it comes to guarding the nation,\u201d President Murmu said, adding that it would \u201cgo down in history as an example in humanity\u2019s fight against terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Operation Sindoor was India\u2019s swift military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Launched on May 7, it involved precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, neutralising over 100 terrorists. Pakistan had responded with missile and drone attacks, which India successfully defended against and retaliated with strikes on Pakistan’s air bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation showcased India\u2019s indigenous defence capabilities, including systems like Akash and BrahMos missiles, and was praised for its accuracy and restraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Murmu said India responded \u201cwith unity\u201d after the Pahalgam terror attack, which was \u201cthe most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Murmu noted that \u201cthe world has taken note of India\u2019s stance that we will not be aggressor but will also not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President also described the operation as \u201ca test case of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in the defence sector,\u201d adding that \u201cthe outcome has proved we are on the right path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
