Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: The half-day long bandh call given by Naba Nirmana Krushak Sangathan partially affected normal life in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar. City buses, cars and auto-rickshaws remained off the road while school buses, ambulances and other essential vehicles were spotted on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No reports of any untoward incidents were received from the city and other parts of the state so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police to ensure peace during the bandh hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) has called for an eight-hour Odisha from 6 am to 2 pm, to protest alleged irregularities in paddy procurement, steep penalties imposed under the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) regime, and what it termed arbitrary power tariff-related actions by Tata Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The farmers\u2019 outfit said the shutdown aims to draw attention to mounting distress among cultivators and the wider public, blaming administrative lapses and rising costs for worsening rural hardships.
