NEW DELHI,FEB 10 : Congress has submitted a notice for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to the Secretary General of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the notice was submitted at 1:14 pm under Rule 94C of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. The proposal carries the signatures of around 118 MPs. Congress leaders said the numbers underline broad opposition support and reflect growing concern over alleged bias, denial of speaking time, and disruptions during the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Congress sources said Rahul Gandhi has not signed the no-confidence notice against the Lok Sabha Speaker, citing the dignity of parliamentary democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to party sources, it would not be appropriate for the Leader of the Opposition to sign a notice seeking a no-confidence motion against the Speaker. They said the decision was guided by institutional propriety and respect for parliamentary traditions, even as the Opposition moved the notice raising concerns over the functioning of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The move marks a major escalation in the ongoing confrontation between the opposition and the treasury benches during the Budget Session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Tuesday said the Opposition had moved a no-confidence notice against the Lok Sabha Speaker, calling it an \u201cextraordinary step\u201d taken under \u201cextraordinary circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a post on X, Tagore said the Opposition continued to place its faith in constitutional propriety and maintained personal regard for the Speaker. However, he expressed anguish over what he described as the consistent denial of opportunities for Opposition MPs to raise issues of public importance in the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the move to bring a no-confidence notice against the Speaker came after years of such grievances, underscoring the seriousness of the Opposition\u2019s concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, the BJP was quick to flag what it called a factual error in the no-confidence motion notice submitted against the Lok Sabha Speaker, pointing out that the document mentioned the wrong year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to BJP leaders, the letter cited the year as 2025 instead of the current year, raising questions over the accuracy of the submission. They also noted that the notice carries 118 signatures of MPs supporting the motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Women MPs from the BJP have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking the \u201cstrictest possible action, under the rules,\u201d against Opposition MPs over the February 4, 2026, ruckus in the House. The letter accuses Opposition members of entering the well, climbing the Speaker\u2019s table and disrupting proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
