Bhadrak, June 5 :<\/strong> The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is bringing significant benefits to households across Bhadrak district. At a time when electricity consumption and bills typically rise during the summer season, many residents are finding relief through rooftop solar installations. By generating their own clean energy, consumers have substantially lowered their power expenses. In May alone, close to 1,000 consumers in the district received electricity bills showing zero consumption charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support the scheme\u2019s implementation, TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has intensified rooftop solar installations under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. Under this initiative, domestic consumers with a sanctioned load of 1 kW can install quality rooftop solar systems at a nominal cost of \u20b91,875. The scheme also provides EMI options for meter-related expenses. More than 3,000 consumers in Bhadrak district have already adopted rooftop solar systems through the programme. Of these, 990 consumers received zero-unit bills in May, while many others reported noticeable reductions in their monthly electricity expenses and expressed satisfaction with the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another major development, Nadigan village in Dhamnagar block has earned the distinction of being declared a Model Solar Village. The announcement was made by Minister Suryabanshi Suraj during a special programme attended by District Collector Dillip Routray, Chief Development Officer Subhendra Samal, Minister\u2019s representative Ashok Kumar Puhan, Nadigan Sarpanch Jharana Majhi, TPNODL Chief Engineer Rajeev Nayak, Superintending Engineer Bhupendranath Sahoo, and OREDA Assistant Director (Technical) Asima Arunima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Model Solar Village initiative is designed to encourage sustainable rural development through renewable energy. The programme envisions the establishment of one exemplary solar-powered village in every district of the country. To oversee implementation, a district-level committee headed by the District Collector was constituted. During the past three months, solar feasibility studies were carried out in 12 villages of Bhadrak district with populations exceeding 5,000. Nadigan emerged as the top-performing village after achieving an installed solar capacity of 119 kW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of this achievement, the village will receive Central Government support for the development of solar-powered infrastructure in public spaces. Based on local requirements, facilities such as solar street lighting, solar-powered drinking water systems, solar cold storage units, and other renewable energy-based amenities will be developed through OREDA (Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency). Out of 195 households identified for model solarisation in Nadigam, installation work has already been completed in 80 households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TPNODL is also continuing extensive awareness campaigns to encourage wider participation in the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
