{"id":155063,"date":"2026-08-26T01:20:46","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T19:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/indusvalleytimes.com\/news\/?p=155063"},"modified":"2026-08-26T01:20:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T19:50:46","slug":"4-killed-in-snakebite-incidents-in-odisha-in-a-day-experts-urge-caution-during-monsoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indusvalleytimes.com\/news\/4-killed-in-snakebite-incidents-in-odisha-in-a-day-experts-urge-caution-during-monsoon\/","title":{"rendered":"4 killed in snakebite incidents in Odisha in a day; experts urge caution during monsoon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Sukant Mohanty<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"caps\"><strong>Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25:<\/strong> At least four people, including two children and a grandfather-grandson duo, died in separate snakebite incidents in Odisha in a single day, bringing to the fore the heightened risk of snake encounters during the monsoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two incidents were reported from Rourkela and Bonai in Sundargarh district, with all four victims reportedly bitten by snakes while they were sleeping at their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a tragic incident at Tileimal village under Tikayatpali police limits in Bonai, a grandfather and his grandson died after being bitten by a snake while they were asleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victims were rushed to Bonai hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another incident, a seven-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister died after they were reportedly bitten by a snake at their home in Hatioda village under Lathikata police limits in Rourkela late on Sunday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The siblings were taken to Rourkela Government Hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snake Helpline members advised people to be more cautious during the monsoon. \u201cSnakes are more likely to enter human settlements as rainwater inundates or disrupts their natural habitats during the monsoon. People need to avoid sleeping on the floors during this time. Besides, they must ensure they leave no passages for the reptiles into their hoses,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts advised residents, particularly those living in rural and low-lying areas, to take precautions to prevent snakes from entering their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople should seal cracks, holes and other possible entry points around houses and use wire mesh where necessary.
