Three individuals sentenced to 10 years in prison for cannabis transportation and fined one lakh

Malkangiri Odisha : In a major crackdown on illegal drug activities, the District and Sessions Judge Smt.Ajanta Sadangi has sentenced three individuals to 10 years imprisonment and one lakh fine for transporting cannabis(Ganja) in Excise Department Case No.54/21-22.
Anup Kumar Majumdar of MV 68, Mira Biswas of MV-35 and Govinda Gain of Mv-122 were apprehended during a routine vehicle check on Titibiri to Malkangiri road by excise Sub Inspector sri.Udayanath Nayak and his staff on Aug. 13th, 2021 and seized 72 Kg Ganja in a tata Indica Car.
The district session judge ruled that the accused had committed a serious crime by transporting and possessing large quantities of cannabis, which is banned under Indian law. The judge further added that the punishment was meant to send a strong message to those who engage in such illegal activities, and to discourage others from committing similar crimes.
The conviction has been welcomed by law enforcement agencies and anti-drug activists who have been working hard to curb the illegal drug trade in the country. This sentence is expected to act as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to engage in such criminal activities.
The individuals have the right to appeal the verdict in a higher court. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies have promised to continue their efforts to stamp out drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the country.
