After schools, Odisha govt mulls to cut short summer vacation in colleges, varsities

BHUBANESWAR, APRIL 18: Days after cutting down summer vacation in schools to only 10 days, the Odisha government is now mulling to curtail the summertime holiday period for the colleges and universities across the state to compensate for the academic loss induced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to sources, the higher education department is likely to make an announcement in this regard soon after a review meeting is likely to be held this week. The meeting will discuss teaching, examinations and declaration of results during the review meeting before announcing the summer vacation for college and university students in the State, sources informed.
On Saturday, the state government had announced a short summer vacation for school students as part of the strategy to make up for the academic loss.
As per the decision of the school and mass Education department, the summer vacations will start from June 6 and continue till June 16. With this, the summer break has now been restricted to 10 days.
Besides, the State government has also announced that the morning classes will continue in the state. As per the latest notification, the morning classes will be conducted from 6 am to 9 am from May 1 and continue till June 5.
