As expected, BJP candidate Devashish Sharma wins by a huge margin in Nagaon L.S Bye election

Guwahati/Assam, Oct 9 : It was widely expected that this time the lotus would bloom in the Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency and BJP candidate Devasish Sharma would win with certainty. Giving shape to everyone’s expectation, BJP-led alliance candidate Devasish Sharma won the bye-election to the Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency as anticipated.
During his tenure as Commissioner of Nagaon – Morigaon districts, Devasish Sharma had built relations with all castes, tribes, religions and communities irrespective of caste and creed. He was able to gain the faith and trust of all during the bye-election. That is why despite challenges, Devasish Sharma was able to win by a huge margin.
The constituency has 19,02,009 voters. Among them, over 11,48,000 are religious minority voters and over 7.58 lakh are Hindu voters. Religious minority voters are about four lakh more than Hindu voters. Religious minority voters have been playing a decisive role in this parliamentary constituency. Naturally, the majority of these voters are with the Congress. Surprising everyone, the fact that these voters embraced the BJP in the Nagaon parliamentary bye-election is a remarkable event.
The 5-day continuous campaign by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma played an important role in the victory of the BJP candidate. The BJP’s tactical strategy and aggressive campaign thwarted all efforts of the opposition including Congress and AIUDF.
15 candidates contested in the constituency. According to the election results, the main contest in this bye-election was between BJP’s Devasish Sharma and AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal. Congress’s Sibamoni Bora had to remain in third position.
In this bye-election, 14,49,479 voters exercised their franchise. Out of them, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma won by securing 7,10,622 votes. While AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal, who was in second position, secured 5,70413 votes, Congress’s Sibamoni Bora, who was in third position, secured 1,28,743 votes. In the bye-election of the constituency, the Congress party had to face a major setback.
