Guwahati/Assam, Oct 11 : In keeping with the BJP’s promise of providing two lakh government jobs during the 2026 Assembly elections, the state government today distributed appointment letters to 439 candidates at the Shri Shri Damodardev International Auditorium of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. The appointments mark the first recruitment initiative during the second term of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and the third term of the NDA government in Assam.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over appointment letters to the candidates for various posts in the Water Resources, Public Health Engineering, Labour Welfare and Cooperation departments, including the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd, on the basis of transparency and merit.
It is noteworthy that the Assam government provided government jobs to 1,65,310 educated youths during its previous term. State BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said that the Assam BJP welcomed the strong initiative taken by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, which has set a record in the state for large-scale recruitment since Independence. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of Assam.
At a time when securing a government job had become an almost unattainable dream for young people from ordinary families, Chief Minister Dr Sarma has turned that dream into reality and recognised their hard work and perseverance.
By putting an end to transactions involving lakhs of rupees in the name of government jobs and eliminating the influence of middlemen, the Chief Minister has ensured justice for the youth of Assam through transparent and merit-based recruitment. This has also created a healthy environment for securing government employment in the state.
The spokesperson further stated that the Chief Minister had disappointed the Opposition, which had ridiculed the promise of providing one lakh government jobs in Assam and allegedly attempted to demoralise educated young people by dismissing the target as impossible. Defying such criticism, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma succeeded in providing more than 1.65 lakh government jobs during his first term in office.
Now, the government is moving confidently towards fulfilling its renewed promise of providing two lakh government jobs.
Although the Opposition has allegedly been conspiring to exploit the younger generation in an attempt to regain its lost political ground and public support, it has so far failed to achieve its objectives. The spokesperson alleged that Opposition forces in the state had been inviting anti-India forces operating from foreign countries to Assam in an attempt to create unrest.
However, putting an end to all the Opposition’s calculations and speculations, the people of Assam have once again elected the Bharatiya Janata Party with an overwhelming mandate in the Silchar Municipal Corporation election and the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, reaffirming their support for the party as the foremost servant of the people, Pranjal Kalita said.
He also observed that people from all sections of society, ranging from children and the elderly to young first-time voters, were joining the state’s development initiatives under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
