Malkangiri,10 July 2023 : Malkangiri District Congress Committee held a press conference today at the Town Hall in Malkangiri to address the pressing concerns faced by the district.Sri. Govind Patra, District Congress President , expressed disappointment as the Collector,Malkangiri failed to resolve the issues mentioned in a memorandum submitted on June 23, 2023. Consequently, a district-wide shutdown has been planned for the 14th of this month.
One of the prominent issues highlighted during the conference was the inadequate facilities at the District’s Seven-Storey , 300-bed Hospital. Despite being constructed five years ago, only 200 beds are available, leaving patients to sleep on the floor. The lack of dialysis machines, medical staff, and radiology services for the CT scan machine further exacerbate the healthcare challenges.
Additionally, the completion of the BED college in the district six years ago has yet to result in its opening. This delay has left many students in the district deprived of BED education. The youths in the district are unable to secure jobs due to state-level selection criteria. The Congress Committee demands a change to district-level selection to address this issue.
Another pressing concern voiced at the conference was the recurring electricity problems in Malkangiri. The local Tata company has been accused of imposing exorbitant electricity bills on the impoverished population and subsequently disconnecting their electricity connections.
The press conference saw the presence of 100 party workers, along with prominent leaders such as P.Keshu Rao, Pranakrishna Mandal, Parshuram Bhakti, Padma Pangi, Ishaq Khosla, Mala Madhi, and G Srinivas Rao.
The Congress Committee, frustrated by the lack of progress on these matters, has decided to proceed with a district-wide shutdown on the 14th of this month to bring attention to the dire circumstances faced by the residents of Malkangiri District.
