Jajpur, April 4 : Around six ancient stone images were unearthed on Sunday from the bed of the river Baitarani near the Dasaswamedh Ghat at Jajpur town.
Bholanath Panda and some locals of Jajpur town found the buried remains of the stone images while taking bath in the river. Large numbers of locals gathered at the river ghat after the idols were fished out from the river.
The recent unearthing of the rare stone images indicates that the nearby areas were the parts of an ancient temple. Last year, the remains of an ancient Shiva temple was unearthed from the bed of the river Baitarani near village Talia under Dasarathpur block of Jajpur district during sand mining.
When contacted Akshya Kumar Mallick the Additional District Magistrate of Jajpur said’ We will take proper steps to preserve the unearthed stone images in the museum in the district’.
