Brahmapur/Odisha, Oct  25 : Tata Steel Foundation facilitated an Employee Volunteerism Programme at Gopalpur Beach to promote environmental conservation, responsible citizenship, and community participation. The initiative brought together employees of Tata Steel Ferroy Alloys Plant, Gopalpur, Tata Steel Foundation, and community changemakers associated with the RISHTA Project.

The programme was led by Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Executive-In-Charge (EIC), Ferroy Alloys and Mineral Division (FAMD), Tata Steel and Dr. Jayant Kumar Tripathy, Unit Lead, Tata Steel Foundation, Gopalpur.

Conducted from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, the beach cleaning drive witnessed the participation of 34 employees from Tata Steel FAP Gopalpur, 23 employees from Tata Steel Foundation, and 10 Saathiya (community changemakers) from the RISHTA Project. Each volunteer dedicated two hours to the initiative.

The volunteers cleaned approximately one kilometer of the tourist beach stretch, addressing litter accumulation caused by high visitor footfall. The collected waste was handed over to the Notified Area Council (NAC) Gopalpur authorities for appropriate waste management and disposal.

Addressing the participants, Sushanta Kumar Mishra emphasized the importance of employee volunteerism in contributing to society and protecting the environment. Participants were sensitized to responsible citizenship, collective action, and the need to reduce plastic pollution to safeguard marine life and preserve coastal ecosystems.

The initiative also saw participation from the RISHTA – Regional Initiative for Safe Sexual Health by Today’s Adolescents project, a Tata Steel Foundation enabled initiative that promotes sexual and reproductive health awareness among adolescents through community engagement and informed health practices.

Following the cleanup drive, volunteers participated in a yoga session promoting physical fitness and well-being. The programme concluded with a collective commitment to environmental stewardship and community service. Through such initiatives, Tata Steel Foundation continues to encourage employee engagement and collaborative action towards building cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
