24-year-old MTech student found dead in IIT-Delhi hostel, cops suspect suicide
NEW DELHI,FEB 16 : A 24-year-old M Tech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi was found hanging in his hostel room, police said on Friday.
The matter came to light after the family of the student, Sanjay Nerkar (24), asked his hostel mates to check on him as he was not answering his phone.
Following the information, Nerkar’s room was broken as it was locked from the inside and his body was found hanging with the ceiling fan.

He was staying in room number 757 at the Dronacharya Hostel.
“Nerkar’s family members called him on Thursday night. When he did not answer the phone, the family members asked his hostel mates to check on him,” news agency PTI quoted a police officer as saying in the case.
The student’s family members have been informed and an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death, police said.
Earlier last year, in a similar incident, a 21-year-old student was found dead in his hostel room at the IIT Delhi. The student, Anil Kumar, allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself.
