Rayagada, Aug. 25: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy was swept away in the gushing water of Nagavali river in Odisha’s Rayagada district even as his father made an adventurous bid to save his life.

The father of the victim, C Gopalkrishna of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, however, managed to save the lives of his two other sons.

According to eyewitnesses, Gopalkrishna along with wife and three sons had come to Rayagada to offer prayers at Maa Majhighariani temple located on the banks of Nagavali.

While Gopalkrishna and his wife were offering puja in the temple, the three children went to the bank of the river and accidentally entered into the swirling water and got swept away. Seeing his children getting carried away in the strong current, he jumped into the water and somehow managed to save the lives of his two sons while the youngest one went missing in the flooding river.

While searching for the youngest son, Gopalkrishna suffered from fatigue. He, however, managed to stick to a large submerged stone in the river.

On being informed about the incident, the fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued Gopalkrishna.

Efforts were on to trace out the missing child.

Gopalkrishna and his two rescued sons were admitted to Rayagada district headquarters hospital.

Their conditions are stated to be stable.
