MCL records highest ever coal production of 193.3 MT in FY 2022-23

Bhubaneswar, April 1: Central public sector unit (PSU) Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has achieved the highest ever coal production of 193.3 million tonnes (MT) in 2022-23 financial year (FY), registering a growth of 25 MT (15 per cent) in comparison to the FY 2021-22.
Sharing details about the PSU’s performance in FY 2022-23, MCL chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Om Prakash Singh said the PSU contributes about 28 per cent coal in the total production of Coal India and about 17 per cent in total energy supply.
The MCL CMD informed that the PSU recorded the highest ever 6.07 lakh tonnes coal despatch in a single day on January 31, 2023.
“Coal despatch to the power sector has increased from 127.12 MT in FY 2021-22 to 149 MT in FY 2022-23 with a positive growth of 17 per cent. The coal despatch is carried out in the highest possible environment-friendly procedures,” said Mr Singh.
MCL has set a capital expenditure (Capex) target of Rs 3,850 crore against target of Rs 3,800 crore. This expenditure would be made in different areas, including infrastructure development.
Mr Singh stated that the PSU is also exploring possibilities of diverting into green energy options in the coming days. This includes setting up a solar power unit.
The CMD informed that the PSU spent Rs 196 crore against a target of 195.66 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
