Paradip, July 27: ‘We have come across a news published today in some of the leading dailies alleging illegal interstate transportation of sweet river sand from Odisha in ship through Paradip Port. In this regard, it may be noted that Paradip Port handles more than 135 MMT of different types EXIM and Coastal cargo annually. Paradip Port acts only as a gateway for transportation of EXIM & coastal traffic. Any Cargo movement inside the port is permitted on production of valid documents and following proper legal procedures including permission from Customs Authority.’

‘It is also informed that river sand is being allowed to enter the Port for coastal shipping on the basis of production of valid Y-forms issued by the concerned Tahasildar. No sand cargo consignment can enter the port premises or be shipped if the shipper does not produce the valid Y form issued by the Tahasildar alongwith other necessary documents viz. permission of the concerned Collector. Therefore, the question of any illegal river sand cargo entering the Paradip Port premises does not arise.’
