Commitment to ‘Mission Zero Harm’ drives innovation in workforce development and meter integrity

By Payal Banerjee

Berhampur (Odisha), Sept. 28: In a major stride towards enhancing workforce capabilities and ensuring metering accuracy, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has inaugurated a cutting-edge Hands-on Technical Training Center (HoTT) and a Tamper Testing Lab in Ambagada, Berhampur.

The launch of these facilities marks a new chapter in TPSODL’s commitment to operational excellence and safety, setting higher benchmarks for power distribution in Southern Odisha.

The state-of-the-art facilities were officially opened by Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, Board Director of TPSODL, and Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, highlighting the company’s strategic focus on developing a highly skilled workforce and maintaining metering integrity across the region.

Enhancing Skills with the Hands-on Technical Training Center

The newly established HoTT Center aims to equip TPSODL’s technical workforce with practical skills and safety measures under the company’s “Mission Zero Harm” initiative. The center blends theoretical learning with practical application, allowing employees to gain hands-on experience in simulated working conditions that closely mimic the challenges of the power distribution sector.

The facility includes classroom-based training and a practice yard that replicates Low Tension (LT) and High Tension (HT) networks, where employees can operate the tools and equipment they will encounter in real-world scenarios. This immersive approach ensures that workers are fully prepared to perform their duties efficiently and safely.

Adding to the training infrastructure, TPSODL has established 16 TPSODL Safety and Skill Development Institute (TSSDI) centers across Southern Odisha. These centers provide induction and other essential training, fostering technical expertise among the workforce with the support of local faculties.

Ensuring Meter Integrity with the Tamper Testing Lab

Complementing the HoTT Center, the newly inaugurated Tamper Testing Lab is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of electricity meters. The lab subjects meters to rigorous testing to identify and resist various tampering methods, ensuring accurate billing and reducing instances of electricity theft. It also manages the repair and re-certification of defective meters, enabling rapid detection and correction of tampering at the consumer level.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s latest initiatives. “These inaugurations reflect our dedication to continuous improvement in both safety and technology. By empowering our workforce with practical skills and ensuring the integrity of our metering systems, we are setting new standards for operational excellence in Southern Odisha,” he said.

A Commitment to Excellence and Safety

TPSODL’s new facilities underline the company’s commitment to its “Mission Zero Harm” vision, emphasizing the importance of safety, skills development, and technological innovation. With these advanced training and testing capabilities, TPSODL continues to lead the way in creating a safer and more efficient power distribution network, benefiting both its employees and the broader community in Southern Odisha.
