Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22: Jindal Panther Cement (JPC), an entity of the Jindal Group, has successfully commissioned its first cement grinding unit (GU) with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in Angul, Odisha.

The cutting-edge facility will utilize around 1 MTPA of blast furnace slag sourced from JSPL’s Angul integrated steel plant, a move designed to lower the clinker factor and reduce carbon emissions. This milestone aligns with JPC’s strategic focus on decarbonization, making it a frontrunner in the production of low-carbon cement.

The Angul Grinding Unit is key to JPC’s mission to deliver eco-friendly, high-performance Portland Slag and Composite Cement to markets across Central and Eastern India. By converting industrial waste from JSPL’s steel operations into valuable construction materials, JPC is advancing its commitment to sustainability and significantly lowering its environmental footprint. This initiative also complements JSPL’s larger goal of achieving decarbonization across its operations.

Looking forward, JPC has set its sights on increasing production capacity at both its Angul and Raigarh sites to 7 MTPA, supported by a planned investment of INR 2,160 crore. This expansion will solidify JPC’s position as a key player in the cement industry and provide sustainable construction materials to fuel regional infrastructure development.

Furthermore, JPC is integrating its cement offerings with JSPL’s Rebar products under the ‘Jindal Panther’ brand, creating a one-stop solution for individual housebuilders (IHBs). This streamlined distribution model will enhance customer convenience by providing high-quality steel and cement through a unified channel, offering better pricing and simplified logistics.

Rohit Vohra, CEO of JPC, expressed enthusiasm for the new facility, stating, “The commissioning of the Angul Grinding Unit marks a major milestone in our journey towards sustainability. By focusing on low-carbon cement and innovative distribution strategies, we are well-positioned to support Eastern India’s growing infrastructure needs while contributing to a more sustainable future.”
