Bhubaneswar, Dec. 18: Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), a leader in ferrochrome production, has entered a joint venture with JSW Green Energy to secure renewable energy for its operations.
Under this partnership, IMFA will collaborate with JSW Green Energy One Ltd and JSW Green Energy Seven Ltd. The company has committed an investment of Rs 83.26 crore in a hybrid renewable project that integrates 50 MW AC solar power with 100 MW wind energy, creating a total contracted capacity of 70 MW.
The arrangement includes a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), positioning IMFA as a captive consumer of clean energy.
Binoy Agarwalla, Vice President and Head of the Power Business Unit at IMFA, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“Our focus on renewable energy is a testament to our commitment to sustainability. By leveraging both solar and wind power, we aim to minimize our carbon footprint while aligning with global efforts for environmental responsibility.”
In addition to its renewable energy initiatives, IMFA is establishing a greenfield facility in Kalinganagar, Odisha, with an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. This expansion is set to bolster ferrochrome production in response to growing demand.
