Guwahati/Assam, Aug 25: A special review meeting was held in Guwahati today to resolve land ownership issues for farmers in Karbi Anglong district and accelerate the immense potential of its agriculture sector. Chaired by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Pijush Hazarika at his office conference hall at Janata Bhawan, the meeting was attended by Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang, Director of Land Records Kailash Kartik, and other senior officials.

Expressing concern over the fact that despite having 2 lakh beneficiaries under the ‘Orunodoi’ scheme, the number of PM-KISAN beneficiaries in Karbi Anglong remains very low, Minister Hazarika stated that eligible farmers will continue to be deprived of government assistance unless land mutation and ownership complexities are resolved. He emphasized, “Karbi Anglong farmers will remain deprived if land rights are not guaranteed.”

To address this, it was decided to increase the number of survey teams to complete the digitization of land records and mapping process across both districts within the next 4–5 months.

The Minister directed the Director of Land Records to support the KAAC with necessary human resources and software guidance so that farmers can register and claim benefits such as ₹6,000 under PM-KISAN, urea subsidies, and other government schemes.

During the meeting, the Minister also held discussions with a PepsiCo delegation led by Director Shri Sandip Samaddar. Initial talks focused on promoting commercial potato cultivation, improving market linkages, and doubling farmers’ income in the district. To operationalize this initiative, a large-scale joint meeting has been scheduled for September 5 featuring PepsiCo executives and progressive potato farmers from various districts.

Minister Hazarika reaffirmed that the state government is working with utmost sincerity to ensure no eligible farmer in the hill district is left out of government welfare schemes or market opportunities.
