Malkangiri, Jan. 7: At least 96 teachers in Odisha are absent from their duty for a long time and disciplinary actions have been initiated against them, informed state school and mass education (SME) minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Saturday.
“Action has been initiated against 96 teachers across the state for their long absence. There is no information on their whereabouts. They did not respond to repeated notices of the department,” the minister said.
Mr Dash said the decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the absentee teachers was taken at a meeting of the department.
The absentee teachers had been working as Sikhya Sahayaks under the district Collectors. Earlier in the day, the SME department dismissed two teachers from their services and slapped show-cause notices to eight others in Sundargarh district.
A few days ago, 10 teachers from Malkangiri district were dismissed from their services for remaining absent for many years. On Friday also, 24 teachers from Nabarangpur district were terminated from services over their absenteeism.
